Welcome to 2018! It’s the time when we’re placing the decorations back in storage, getting our homes organized, and unboxing the last of our big gifts. The trash is beginning to pile up, and it’s time to take our new, shiny toy’s box out to the curb.

As trusting as we’d like to be in our own neighborhoods, keep in mind that placing your empty gift’s box on the curb is a big ole advertisement that there’s an expensive toy inside. Some suggestions are to break down the boxes of expensive gifts and place in the garbage where it can’t be seen, recycle the broken-down boxes, or take the boxes to your local dump.

Remember that expensive gifts such as jewelry, televisions, computers, etc., can all be added to your home insurance. There are special items that can be scheduled specifically to your policy. Adding the items to your home insurance protects them from theft, fire, vandalism, and other perils covered by your insurance.

Personal property is already covered under your home insurance, but scheduling items makes sure those specific items have the specific coverage needed. Jewelry often needs a copy of the appraisal showing its value to correctly add it to the policy. Electronics and other pricey items should have the receipt alongside them. Electronics, such as computers and laptops, have a special coverage that protects them if they were to be dropped or damaged by accident.

Also, if a new vehicle was purchased during the holidays, don’t forget to add to your auto insurance policy. We understand the holidays are a busy time, and trust us, it does slip busy minds.

Have a pricey gift that you want to add to your insurance policy? Call our office so we can make sure your precious belongings are covered correctly.
